However, why do you think that Scream was the first to popularize the trend of women fully taking charge of their own destiny and then slaughtering the main antagonist during the third and final act?

Do we strictly speaking of slashers and final girls or horrors as Alien and others (like Halloween and The Texas Chainsaw massacre) count as well?
