“You don’t think I’m depressed? I wake up depressed every day, and I can’t just say ‘I’m not going into work today,’” my dad said to my brother. “I can’t just choose not to support my family or not going into work. Everyone is depressed and they have to work, and there’s no reason you shouldn’t either.”
I don't want to take away the seriousness of this piece, but this reminded me of Sebastian Maniscalco's stand-up special (Stay Hungry), in which he shares a similar conversation that happened between him and his dad. It's hilarious! I highly recommend it.
