I can’t tell you which path would help you move further in your career, but I can tell you my experience.

I love writing about pop culture, but that’s not the best earner on Medium. I write about them since I was 14 – I had breaks though – and I find that I always come back to them one way or another.

On the other hand, I know what topics make more money on this platform, and I write in those infrequently – but those aren’t my passion. They are challenging, which I like, but I realized, I can’t write about those as frequently as I do about movies, tv shows, music, etc.

So I made a writing schedule for myself. 70–80% I write about my main interests, and the rest is everything that comes after that. I broke this down to 13–15 articles a month. Yet, I don’t put pressure on myself if I don’t follow it strictly. Still, it’s useful guidance.

My guess is that you will always come back those subjects and topics you love the most. So you will write about them too. What I would suggest is to mix it up a little and see how that works out.

Then you can decide how it feels and whether it’s sustainable.
