Chase hated TV, and I think that’s the main reason he never really did anything interesting after The Sopranos. He made his movie (with Gandolfini), which flopped as hard as it could I guess, and then I believe he gave up. But this is strictly my personal opinion.
I understand what you’re saying but I disagree. I would never revisit The Wire for instance. It takes so long until the show really gets going (frankly, 2 seasons) , and for me it only became exceptionally great from S3. OZ was good but nowhere near the level of The Wire or The Sopranos (I would also never rewatch it). I can watch basically any episode of The Sopranos and it hooks me instantly, making me want to go rewatch the whole thing again. There aren’t a lot of shows that can do that.
I really don’t think it’s that depressive but I guess it depends how you look at it. Anyway, thanks for the comment, David.
